How to stay in the UAE for more than 90 days

Residents of the UK and several other countries including Australia, Canada, Japan, and the United States of America, can stay in the UAE without a visa or residence permit for no more than 30 days a year. Citizens of most European countries are allowed to stay in the UAE for 90 days without a visa. Their passports are stamped at the airport with a free 90-day visa.

What should you do if you want to stay in the United Arab Emirates for more than 90 days? You can choose the best option among the following visas in the UAE.

Types of short-term visas in the UAE

The visa procedure between the UAE and other countries is simple. There are several types of entry permits in the UAE that depend on the purpose of the trip.

The shortest visa is a transit visa. If a flight delay in the UAE exceeds 24 hours, passengers must apply for a transit visa that allows them to stay in the country for no more than 96 hours.

The most common type of visa to enter the UAE is a tourist visa. It allows people to stay in the UAE for 30 to 90 days depending on their nationality.

To visit relatives in the UAE, you must apply for a visitation visa. This type of permit allows you to stay in the United Arab Emirates for 29 days.

If you need to extend your stay, relatives can apply to the UAE Migration Service for a visa extension.

Those traveling to the United Arab Emirates on business must apply for a business visa. The employing company registered in the UAE will apply for this on behalf of the employee/applicant. This visa is valid for 60 days.

Those entering the country must apply for work and residence through their employer during these 60 days. This type of visa entitles you to a 2-year stay in the country. However, the conditions may vary depending on the nationality of the applicant.

How to extend a 30-day visa

What should you do if you have to stay in the United Arab Emirates for more than 30 days?

To legally stay in the UAE for more than 30 days, you need to extend your visa but this can only be for 1 month (30 days). Tourists with passports that allow them to obtain a 90-day visa can extend their visas.

After contacting the migration service, tourists must fill out an application for a visa extension and write down the visa identification number. After that, they must pay a visa extension fee of AED 100.

How to stay in the UAE for more than 90 days

To stay in the UAE for more than 90 days, one must obtain a long-term visa. There are several types of residence permits or resident visas for 2 to 10 years. This is the period required for issuing a visa.

For example, people who own property of at least AED 10,000,000 (about $3,000,000) in the United Arab Emirates may apply for a 10-year visa.

Real estate investors can get a 5-year residence permit for at least AED 5,000,000 ($1,360,000). The real estate can be residential or commercial and applicants can purchase real estate with a mortgage.

Investors who have invested at least AED 750,000 (approximately $204,000) in real estate are eligible for a 3-year resident visa. The applicant must demonstrate a monthly income of at least $2,720. It is also possible to open a company in the UAE, giving the owner the right to apply for a 3-year resident visa with an extension.

Other types of long-term visas for the UAE may include education, treatment, employment in the country, family reunification, etc.

Entry to the UAE during the COVID-19 pandemic

Most foreigners enter the UAE through Dubai. It is possible to travel through airports in other emirates but there are fewer direct flights.

At the airport, the migration officer may request information about hotel accommodation and bookings. In addition, the employee can check the travelers’ health insurance. Without it, the tourist will be denied departure from the airport and can be deported from the country. A health insurance policy is needed to cover any treatment and it must cover COVID-19 treatment.

In 2022, all tourists entering the United Arab Emirates must follow these rules:

  1. Persons entering the UAE on a transit visa must provide the migration service with the results of a coronavirus test.
  2. They have to retake the test on arrival in the UAE. To get the test results at the airport, they need to download an application on their phones. An airport employee can assist in downloading the app.
  3. Test results are issued within 1 day. Before receiving them, the test subject must stay in a hotel or apartment.
  4. If a tourist has a positive test result for COVID-19, he must stay at home or in a hotel for at least 2 weeks. During this time, he can seek treatment at the nearest hospital.
